Straight to the Point

Vanessa won a special b/rose salon package at our friend Lindsay's Go With Your Gut fundraiser. I tried to talk Vanessa into sharing it with me but she had plans. We scheduled it last weekend and what Vanessa wanted more than anything else was to have her hair blown straight -- as straight as can be. We were warned that a past client, also a little girl, had her hair blown out and when she looked in the mirror she became terribly upset and worried that she would never get her curls back. I assured them that Vanessa would not be worried. We've had to tell Vanessa, since she brushes out her curls and has for a while now, that one day she will appreciate them and the fact that she will always hear how people wish they had curls.

I wasn't sure if she would really brave the hand massage and waxing, but she did. And she was awesome with sitting with such enormous patience for the entire package deal, including a light makeup application. We thought we grabbed a final picture just outside the door of the salon, but for some reason that picture did not take or get stored on my phone. Even so, here are some highlighting the experience.

She told me she felt older.
We went to a Frozen birthday party a few hours later. The beautician put a braid in Vanessa's hair and we told her she looked like Anna.
She begged to keep it for one more day. We talked about how she would have to sleep carefully so as not to make it stinky and curly again. She did pretty well with that.
