"Bruh"

Hendrix is so very funny with his broad and accurate references. The only problem is that sometimes I don't know what context I'm supposed to be thinking about when he makes some of his references. Other times, I totally get it right away and I'm blown away by the very deep connections. Here are a few that I have been noting and emailing myself over the last couple of months. :-)

When asked to do something he's not on board with, he often replies"Not today...maybe tomorrow..."

Instead of calling sand castles just that, he refers to them as "beach castles".

When we go to the mall or another facility with escalators, he calls them the "moving up stairs" and "moving down stairs."

In the last month or so it took me a while to figure out that Hendrix prefers some slang and uses it well, like "Okay, Bruh...?" when he is talking with Zane and his friends.

Anything shiny is a "diamond". He asks to use our metal straws with "Can I please have a diamond straw?"

When I asked him how he deepens his voice he explained "My voice is in my mouth." He points to back of throat and says "My chin holds it in..."

One day as we were drawing lots of pictures, he kept asking me "Make a sad O...?" A what?!?! "A sad O. . ." What I finally figured out was that he was asking me to make a sad face. "Yeah! That's it! That's the right way! Good job, Mom."

If he doesn't like a song or words I'm saying, he pushes an imaginary button and says "Pause." And sometimes he'll unpause me. "Okay, unpause"

Round and Round

The kids get to go ice skating with friends more than I've been in a few years. I was for sure my legs would get tired quickly, but nope, I could've kept going and going, even with the massive crowd of skaters. Because we followed a grandmother's lead on break time, we got to get back on the rink after break and skate for a few minutes all by ourselves. It was fun!

Zoo and COSI Days

Columbus Zoo Wildlights was crazy busy! But we had fun even so.
COSI was busy but very manageable! We had such a fun day!
Zane and Vanessa waited 45 minutes or so for Zane to ride the highwire for his very first time. He was anxious and confident. He made it ALL the way on his own, back and forward. He learned that it is a challenge! So proud that he fought through the anxiety and did so well! He's a mighty guy!
It was fun to visit the special exhibits before they are gone, including the TMNTs!

Abundance Day

A day of abundant time together, packages to open, food to eat, energy to release, time to play, messes made, love to share. . .

The Days Before Christmas

Hendrix wrapped presents and clustered the ones he did together under the tree.
Vanessa poured paint onto a canvas as a present for a special friend.
Zane helped tie ribbon around nativity characters for a family gift.
Zane had a blast with his classmates.
Hendrix played a sheep in the church nativity. (I was super impressed he allowed some one to put something on his head!)
Zane was a wise man.
Zane loved hearing his daddy sing Silent Night in his ear.
We enjoyed having a Grandma and Grandpa with us for Christmas Eve. Vanessa missed the photo because she was running around with a few of the other preschoolers she helps with, specifically her little old soul buddy Dax, who loves her oodles and oodles.
And of course the kids were eager to hear Daddy read so they could get in bed for Christmas morning to come quickly.

Cups Runneth Over

Vanessa and Hannah (and Scarlet!)
Vanessa, Luke, and Rachel
Every family begins a visit with holding a snake, right?! Oh my . . . if my dad had been here. . . wait. Dad would not have come if it meant visiting a snake. :-) Actually, I bet he would have compromised for all the grandbabies and great grandbaby. :-)

We had a wonderful Mollohan visit. Indeed there are holes but the joy of the moment and the time together overshadow those holes, as they should, and we reflect on how we know those we held near and dear love when we're together, laughing, chatting, revealing, confessing, updating, loving, joking, playing, eating . . . I'm always sad when it comes to an end, but I do look forward to the next time . . .  and thank God my overflowing heart  has been filled till next time.
