Vacation Lakes

As I mentioned, there was a private community lake at the bottom of our hill, Mirror Lake. It was nice and larger than one might expect for a private community, and so close to Lake Lure.

The water was pretty nice most of the time but at the end of the week, the water looked pretty murky, mainly because the sand they bring in and dump for the beach had been stirred up, just like shaking a snow globe. On that day, the kids and I went to the waterfall to wash off.

There were minnows nibbling on us and huge clam shells, some alive and some empty. On the murky day there was a black snake swimming with us.

The owner of our cabin also has a canoe locked up at the beach. Knowing Hendrix would probably tip a canoe, Adam took Vanessa and Zane out on the lake on his own.
Lake Lure is huge and beautiful. There is a small little chapel right beside the ABC liquor store that holds outside services on Sunday mornings. Very cute. When Hendrix would see the "ABC" liquor store, he would launch into reciting his ABCs. :-) You can turn anything and everything into  a learning experience. :-) You pay admission for the Lake Lure beach area. The lifeguards are super attentive, evening blowing a whistle on a dad for demonstrating the Lift with his tween daughter. :-) Apparently you can only do the lift in that area during the Dirty Dancing festival in August.

Ducks and geese swam with and amongst us. They steered clear of us most of the time.

Right across from the beach was a little ice cream stand. As Adam said, that guy has to be making a killing on business during the warmer months. Perhaps he drives a snow plow during the winter. :-)
