Wishing

As with many toddlers and preschoolers, going to the store can be quite an adventure. Giving a few seconds every couple of feet for almost every aisle in a supercenter makes for a loooonnnngggg . . .  trip. Nonetheless, it can be so much fun to hear the amazement for the simplest things. Lots of WOWs and LOOK AT THIS! And even at times when you think she won't be distracted by things on shelves and racks, she is. Like in a ladies apparel section at Kohl's several months ago when she yelled out across the aisle at me: "Hey, Mom! Look! This bra would look so beautiful on you!" It was navy blue with huge white polka dots -- really something I would never really consider, but boy how cute to see her thinking of someone else!

Generally we end our coveting moments with "You can add that to your wishlist, huh?" Of course near Christmas we throw it at Santa. She's learning well to wait for things. She's getting better every trip, wanting to return home to make an addition to her wishlist: "I'm going to put that on my wishlist!"

Then there are times when we don't make any promises. Some things are best left for surprises, and it's easier than being extra disappointed. But what a surprise this day:
Although she only rode for a few minutes, the experience made quite the impression. And how fun to then see Daddy go do his fun thing, returning refreshed.
Note to those concerned -- if and when my daughter begins to exceed 5-10mph, we'll be sure she wears a helmet. As for Daddy -- how in the world am I to make him do it? Maybe Vanessa and Zane can learn to tell Daddy You need to wear a helmet when you're going 50-60mph on a busy lake.

Lake Fun: We had tons of fun at our friend Charlie's b-day party a few weeks ago. What a treat to be a part of it!
