Huntington Beach, SC -- Day 2

Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning we had some big thunderstorms move through camp. Kids handled it well. They crawled up closer to me and covered their ears but went back to sleep. Surprisingly I wasn't overwhelmed by the thunder, lightning, hard rain and wind as much as I could have been. It wasn't until the next day that Adam mentioned all he could think about was what if one of the trees fell on us. So happy he didn't share that with me during the night. :-)

The next day it continued to rain a warm and soft rain the first half of the morning. When we gained 5 minutes of access to the outside world, we considered the forecast and decided to move around our agenda a tad.  We enjoyed the marsh and state park and Atalaya Castle before heading to the beach. It about killed Vanessa to wait but she eventually changed her perspective and appreciated the experience. Zane just went with the flow.

We saw gators and birds and crabs and oysters among many things. As we watched one gator, a couple alerted us to the fact that another gator was coming across the road and up behind us. He was startled and ran back. We counted a lot of gators.

We inched our way through the park.
At one point we were made aware that one side of the marsh was sea water and the other side was fresh water.

"Can both fresh water and salt water flow from the same spring?" ~ James 3:11
(Love this verse as a reminder that our words and behaviors shouldn't contradict our intentions, hope and actions.)

If you zoom in to the picture below, you can see teeny tiny crabs all over the place.
And then it was time for the beach!
After arriving to the beach a gentleman showed up to fish. While we were there we spotted something about 70 yards off the coast. It only surfaced a couple of times but the fisherman pointed out to me that it was shark. It was too far to be really concerned. A jet ski zoomed by, traveling from Myrtle Beach to Georgetown.
I could stay here all day and all night.
Vanessa made friends with Addie and Solomon. Addie was awesome to share her large inner tube. The girls took turns while Zane and I played in the sand.
Zane wrote his name in "cursive" and then walked it. :-)
Can you find the rainbow below?
Quick. The kids aren't looking. And technically it's not PDA if no one is watching. :-)
Zane was holding onto his towel so tight, he fell face in the sand.
