Last Tuesday (AM)

Last Tuesday we ventured to Assateague Island. This place was one big reason for vacationing in the Bethany Beach area. If you haven't heard, this island is known for its wild ponies. We went with the hope we might come across some, figuring there was no guarantee, but wouldn't it be cool . . .?

Vanessa fell asleep shortly before arriving. She was zonked. We stopped by the visitor center and drove down the road to pay our entrance fee. Once the fee was paid, we turned the corner and noticed cars stopped and pulled off of the side of the road. The ponies were in the middle of the road!! We shook Vanessa awake. The rest of the trip only got better. We went to the bay side and saw more ponies. We walked boardwalks and trails, played games with crabs, and found really cool shells and feathers.

When we arrived we knew the ponies would likely be hanging on the bay side since the weather was cooler in the morning. It warmed up quickly, though, and we even saw ponies on the beach.

A lot of people camp on the island. Youth groups come for several days at a time. Camping here would be so much fun!
