Life is Like a Game of Chess

"Chess is a contributor to net human unhappiness, since the pleasure of victory is greatly exceeded by the pain of defeat." ~ Bill Hartston

The kids have a thing where they like to play chess on the iPad in the mornings before Vanessa goes to school. Recently they decided a great place to play is in the toy storage bench in the playroom. So they empty it and sit inside with the lid blocking. I wonder if Vanessa came up with the idea to hide the fact that she's trying to control Zane's moves.

I also think Vanessa knows that Zane doesn't understand the game as well when using the real thing, since there is no prompting on a real board, so one morning she told Zane they had to play with the real pieces. I told her they didn't have time to get it all out and set it up before eating breakfast and leaving for school, so she settled on the iPad. In the bottom picture you can see where she's trying to keep Zane from moving his piece to win. :-)
